Meet Karen

Hello!

I’m Karen, one of the creators of Voeden House. I really wish I could meet you for a little breakfast or coffee date so we could get to know each other! I love meeting new people (and a good breakfast). I take a little heat from those who know me for how often I’m meeting up with someone at a cute little restaurant. Here’s the thing. I’d way rather chat in person…and if you lived with a husband and four sons…you’d try to get out too! Just kidding. (Kind of). I love my boys and all that comes with them, but they sure do keep us on our toes! I’m currently living vicariously through Elizabeth who gives me all the glorious details of “empty nesting”. There’s never been a dull moment or quiet house by me yet! It will come…and then I’ll miss this.

I’m married to my dear husband, Kurt. We’re the perfect match. If I can dream it…for the most part, he can make it happen. He will act like he doesn’t like my crazy ideas, but I know he does…right honey? If he sees me staring blankly into a room, he’ll say “No. Whatever it is, no”. But then he’ll circle back around and ask me what I’m thinking. We’ve got the routine down! I think he’s touched about every square inch of this house, (inside and out) with his paint brush. When not keeping up with me, he patiently keeps up with our four active boys, facilitating all their constant activities and let’s be honest…car repairs. If the boys aren’t on a snow hill or frozen pond, they’re behind a boat. If they’re not hunting or fishing, they’re biking. He champions through everyone’s chaos and still manages his family business here in Holland. What a guy!

Our home is filled with boys (even two male dogs) but they graciously let me decorate and make our home cozy and fun. They’ve even been known to admit that they like it! If you stopped by, you’d see lots of lamps and accent lighting, color and artwork, lovely houseplants and even some wallpaper. If it’s cold out, I’d be in my robe with a warm cup of coffee. (I’m really happiest in my robe) Summer? I’d be under the pergola or out watering my plants. I adore outdoor spaces. They’re such a fun extension of our home and I love to make them equally as warm and inviting. No matter if you’re inside or out, you’d hear a little Michael Buble or Steve Terell playing in the background.

Dreaming, designing and creating nurtured spaces in our house gives me so much joy. To me, there’s no place like home. I hope that through this space we can get to know each other and find fun and enjoyable ways to nurture our families and spaces alike. So hello to all of you from our house to yours!
